2019 vintage in Sonoma Coast was almost perfect for white grapes. A normal Summer was followed by lower than usual temperatures in early Fall, which turned out to be very handy in keeping naturally refreshing acidity levels. Grapes were picked and shipped to us weeks before the fires ravaged some locations in California. Overall, the grapes were elegantly balanced, incredibly rich and intensely aromatic.
Different techniques were utilized to boost the natural elegance of this variety. Extended cold maceration, cold fermentation and extended sur lie helped to develop an exuberant body, and an eclectic array of flavors, with a soft round texture and a zingy finish. Because for some, it is all about expressing the story the vineyard wants to tell written by a Winemakers patient guidance, Neutral French oak was partially used until this Chardonnay told us to back off.
The 2019 Ficarra Cellars Chardonnay elicits a wide array of sweet aromas such as white peaches, nectarines, Crème brûlée, and limes, crisscrossing hints of butterscotch, herbal flavors, and hazelnut. This traditional wine can be shared and enjoyed with Alaskan salmon, Maine oysters, Tempura, mushroom Risotto, or Grilled vegetable Lasagna.
